Many claim that the term “sons of God” is reserved for a select group known as the Overcomers. I have been exposed to this idea for years and have written from that point of view before. But lately God has been setting me free from this prideful and elitist attitude.

One of the main verses used is in Romans 8 where Paul speaks about the “sons of God” setting creation free.

Rom 8:18  For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
Rom 8:19  For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God.

Paul has been writing about how all believers are in Christ Jesus and not in the flesh. 8:9 If you have the Spirit of Christ you are His. If you are His you are not in the flesh anymore you are in the Spirit. We need to hear that simple truth all the time. Many will point at other Christians and say that they are in the flesh. Paul says by the Spirit that one who has the Spirit of God is not in the flesh but in the Spirit.

Rom 8:9  But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.

If there is an issue here it is Paul’s inferred question “Do you have the Spirit of Christ?” If you do not have Him then you are not yet belonging to Christ. Read my study “Receive the Holy Spirit.”

When the multitude believed Phillip when he preached Christ to them, they believed on Jesus and were baptised in water ONLY…They had not yet received the Spirit for He had NOT YET fallen upon them. So the Church sent John and Peter straight away so that those new believers could receive the Spirit of God. This is what Paul is meaning.

So if you do have the Spirit of Christ you are His. Are you are child or a son? Same thing. You are a son of God through faith in Jesus Christ.

Gal 4:4  But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law,
Gal 4:5  to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.
Gal 4:6  And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!”
Gal 4:7  Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.

Very clearly we are sons of God who have received the spirit of adoption(Rom 8:15)…or the Spirit of His Son(Gal 4:6) into our hearts whereby we cry ABBA Father. The very fact that you have this urge within you to call God Father shows that you are his son…it is called the Spirit of His Son or the Spirit of Adoption.

Paul also said in Galatians 3:26  “For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.”

Another verse in Romans 8

Rom 8:14  For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

Many will use this verse to intimidate people into believing they are not sons of God. This is one of the verses they use.

The preacher will say that ‘if you are not being led by the Spirit then you are not a son of God.’  This is a hideous twisting of Scripture and an elitist attitude.

As we saw above in Rom 8:9 the believer who has the Spirit of God is not in the flesh –but in the Spirit. Therefore what Paul is saying here in verse 14 is the same…YOU ARE BEING LED BY THE SPIRIT OF GOD! You are being led by Him because He is one Spirit with your spirit..(1Cor6:17)..He is always leading you whether you are conscious of it or not.

If you do not have His Spirit then you are not His(8:9)so therefore you would be led by your flesh. But now that you have His Spirit you are led by Him in the S/spirit.

Therefore you can be at peace over this verse if it has been used to condemn you.  The Accuser loves to condemn us. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. We have already read PAul saying many times that we are sons of God through simply believing in Jesus and receiving His Spirit into our hearts. It is only pride that would add to this simple adoption in order to make it harder to be a son. In fact making it harder is bringing God’s sons and daughters back into slavery to the Law. Those under the Law are slaves. Those in Christ are sons.(Gal 4:7)

Rom 8:16  The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,…

First Paul tells us we are sons of God then he says the Spirit of His Son bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God. Both Greek words used to mean son or children have the same meaning and are often interchanged by the translators.  The bottom line is that Children of God are sons of God.

From there Paul goes onto the next passage where he speaks of the sons of God setting all creation free. Now I come to the point of this article.

Rom 8:18  For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared withthe glory which shall be revealed in us.
Rom 8:19  For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God.

There is NO REASON AT ALL to suppose that Paul is speaking of some different group of people called sons of God as he has already spoken about. He has plainly told us that we are sons of God by simply believing in Jesus and receiving His Spirit. Now he speaks of the revealing of the sons of God as if they are not here yet. This is why many are saying that these sons of God must not be all of us but some hidden few. Again I say no. Paul is speaking of all of us children/sons of God. And he is speaking of a time he looked forward to when there would be a revealing.

The Revealing

Paul says glory shall be revealed in us….that is…in us children or sons of God. The word here for revealed is apokaluptō
Thayer Definition:
1) to uncover, lay open what has been veiled or covered up
1a) disclose, make bare
2) to make known, make manifest, disclose what before was unknown

Inside you and me dwells JESUS CHRIST in person. That is why you are called a son of God. But people look at you with eyes of flesh and do not see Jesus. Yet the Bible plainly declares that He dwells in your heart…more specifically He dwells in your spirit. He has been veiled or covered up as Thayer’s Dictionary says above. But the veil is our mortal bodies. The day is coming when we shall all be changed and mortality shall be swallowed up by life. Our bodies shall no longer hide what we contain…rather our new bodies shall be one with our pure born again spirit…of the same substance as Jesus body.

Also my dear friend you are in union with Jesus in your spirit. When Jesus said in Joh 14:20  At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you. He spoke of the reality that He is right now in you. This is what Paul called the glory that shall be revealed or uncovered. In Colossians 3 Paul wrote that your life is hidden with Christ in God. This is the same as John 14:20 Basically you are ONE with Father and Son in your S/spirit. This is hidden from the natural eye but shall be revealed or uncovered in that day.

Col 3:3  For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
Col 3:4  When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.

This verse is the same thought as in Romans 8:18. You the true you–one with Father and one with Jesus shall be revealed…shall appear….then every eye shall see Jesus!! Paul goes in Romans 8…

Rom 8:19  For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God.

So even though we are all sons of God by faith in Jesus Christ—it is not yet revealed to all creation. We are being brought to the place of KNOWING our perfect union and glory with Jesus. It is when we know that we are JUST LIKE JESUS and that AS HE IS SO ARE WE….when we know this deep inside then the glory starts breaking through. But Paul is speaking as he often did of a future resurrection when the unveiling shall take place.

I believe that God brings each of us to the place of understanding W/who we are in Jesus–sons of God….and only as we agree and accept this revelation from God through the Gospel shall we be revealed to all creation. What do I mean?

Well…if you do not believe that you are just like Jesus then your eye is divided and not single. Thus your whole body is full of darkness. But if you believe and confess that you are as Jesus is…then your eye is single and your body full of GLORY.

Luk 11:34  The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of lightbut when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness.
Luk 11:35  Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness.
Luk 11:36  If thy whole body therefore be full of light, having no part dark, the whole shall be full of light, as when the bright shining of a candle doth give thee light.

Do you see yourself as having 2 life forces inside battling each other? Two natures? Then your is evil…and darkness is the result. But if you agree with God’s revelation that there is only ONE LIFE in you–the life of nature–the nature of God…then your eye is single and your body full of glorious light.

This is what CREATION is longing for….For you and me–the sons of God–to see what we are in Him and to agree with God–so be it Lord. And in our agreeing then we confess these things over our self daily to convince our minds of it. We are only convincing ourselves of what is already true anyway.

We are sons of God!! And in knowing that we are sons of God we shine with His glory. Satan wants to dim your light so he spends a lot of time trying to get you to believe that you must do lots of obedient stuff before you can be a son of God. Rubbish! Because of Jesus you are a son of God.

1Jn 3:1  Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
1Jn 3:2  Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

Jesus is THE Son but God is bringing MANY sons to glory. One of the tasks God gives to his sons is to set the captives free even as elder Brother Jesus did.

John 8:31  Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed.
Joh 8:32  And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
Joh 8:33  They answered Him, “We are Abraham’s descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How can You say, ‘You will be made free’?”
Joh 8:34  Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin.
Joh 8:35  And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever.
Joh 8:36  Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.

The Pharisees thought they were free. They thought they were not in bondage. Yet God saw them as those in bondage who needed to be set free.

How were they in bondage? TO THE LAW OF MOSES! They were in bondage to sin through the Law.

Without Law there is no sin. The Law was brought in that sin may be seen for what it is-sin–lawbreaking.

These Pharisees were strict law-keepers–and in all their law-keeping they sinned all the time.

They were slaves. Slaves to sin and enslaved  by the Law. Thus the more they try to stop sinning, to keep the Law the more they sinned and broke the Law.

Now if we abide in Jesus –Who is the TRUTH we shall know the truth and the Truth shall set us free.

And so it comes down to our day. There are still those who vehemently hold to keeping the Law. They are slaves to sin. They are walking in opposition to Jesus Christ even while they imagine otherwise. They have set aside the grace of God. They have despised the cross and their end is to be burned in the fire until they are set free from such false imaginations. Imagining that they have any ability at all to be a good person…imagining that they have any strength at all to not sin. The fire shall burn these things . How? I believe God allows us to experience the end result of such blindness. We fall deeper and deeper into sin and bondage the more we discard Jesus as our only Life and only strength and only righteousness.

Any kingdom that is established on the Law of Moses is the judgement of God manifesting upon people who refuse the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. It will be a kingdom of strict law keepers devoid of love and peace and joy. It will be enforced by Pharisaical police who shall drag you off to the synagogues of Satan for refusing to let go of Jesus as your only righteousness. It shall be a chance for you to preach Jesus to them. In the hope that God sets them free just as Stephen preached and later Saul of Tarsus who was there listening to Stephen got saved.

Abraham’s natural descendants are in bondage to the Law of Moses–which enslaves them to their flesh and locks them into sin patterns of destruction. They need to be set free. Yet of course, as always they shall resist God and stiffen their necks in pride striking out at their rescuers who come to them as Jesus did.

God suffers long.

The slaves of sin –ie the Law keepers–shall not abide in God’s house. No. That house is a house built and established in, and on, and through, and by, GRACE. The Grace of God in Jesus Christ is the only foundation and the only building material God uses for His House. There are no Law of Moses bricks used. There is not one part of the foundation that is built upon Moses. God’s house is built upon the foundation of the Apostles and Prophets who speak of Jesus Christ and His work on the Cross.

When grace comes to the heart bound by sin and judgements prison doors open and grace flows in.

All accusations cease when Jesus comes. Neither do I condemn you He says…now based upon that forgiveness you can go and sin no more. You are free as long as you dwell in My word.

The good words of His grace towards you and me set us free from the words of Moses and that ugly tree.

Better to partake of Life than to eat from the tree of Death.

There has always been two trees in the garden, just as there are two kingdoms at war with each other.

The Lord allowed them to take Him at Passover saying “This is your hour and the power of darkness.”

But in that seeming victory for the dark side–God won the victory for all human kind–especially for those who believe.

Once again the scene is set for a similar trap.

The Law keepers are rebuilding their Temple and the implements thereof. They are intent upon enslaving all mankind to the Law of Moses by force. Yet God says grace is greater. They shall find that the more they push the greater the grace of God shall be preached and demonstrated around the world. Jesus Christ is victorious and together with Him we shall set many free.

The one who thinks that being a Christian is about  trying hard to be a good person…trying to keep the Laws of God….trying not to sin….HAS NOT ENTERED INTO JESUS YET. They are still eating from the Tree of death and are enslaved by the Law to their flesh. The sons of God shall set them free into the glorious liberty won by the Son of God – Jesus.

These prisoners are crying out to be set free even as they congratulate each other for keeping the Law.

I do not want to rain on your party but getting saved, being born again, believing in Jesus Christ is NOT all about dying and going to heaven. It is about knowing the Father and Jesus whom He sent, now in this life.

Of course that is the whole idea–the whole purpose of the Father. He wants with all His heart for you and I to rest in Him and to know Him. That is why He gave us the Holy Spirit. For the Spirit knows the Father’s heart, for the Spirit is the Spirit of Jesus.

With God it is always today…always now….always new every morning.

Yes you got born again way back on a certain date….but what about today? You can know the Father today more than you did yesterday.

Jesus claimed while standing upon the earth that He was in heaven…in the bosom of the Father. He said that the Father dwelt in Him and He dwelt in the Father. That is great Lord,,,what about us? DO we have to wait till we die to have that kind of oneness with you?

Joh 17:24  “Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory which You have given Me; for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.

My dear reader….God HAS answered Jesus prayer already. When Jesus died and rose again He did so so that you and I may be with Him where He is.

Where is Jesus?

Why…in the Father of course! You say…”No Jesus is in heaven.”

Where did Jesus come from?

Why –From the Father of course!

Joh 16:28  I came forth from the Father and have come into the world. Again, I leave the world and go to the Father.”

Joh 3:13  No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man who is in heaven.

Joh 1:18  No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.

Jesus is in the bosom of the Father–in His heart! For a little while we beheld His glory, for He was made visible in human flesh so that the One we saw and touched and listened to was a human man in total perfect union with God His Father.

Jesus said He was in heaven..even while He stood there teaching them. The John says the Son is in the bosom of the Father. Heaven then is the bosom of the Father. Heaven then is God’s heart!

Look again at what Jesus asked His Father to do for us.

Joh 17:24  “Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory which You have given Me; for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.

This desire of Jesus was fulfilled on the day of Pentecost when they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. The disciples had been waiting on the Lord in prayer in the upper room in Jerusalem. Jesus had told them to wait there…He had gone into heaven–which we saw was the bosom or heart of Father. Now He poured out the Holy Spirit–which Paul tells us is the Spirit of Christ (Rom 8:9).

Suddenly those 120 believers are baptised into the Holy Spirit of Christ and have had their human spirit PUT INTO JESUS’ SPIRIT.

The 120 are now in Jesus and Jesus is now in them….but wait–there’s more!!

Okay..they are in Jesus and Jesus is in them….but where is Jesus again?

In the heart of Father–in His bosom–in the heavenlies.

The glory that God gave Jesus was the Spirit of God which made Jesus one with Father.

Joh 17:22  And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one:
Joh 17:23  I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.

JUST AS WE ARE ONE!! Do you see that?

The Baptism of the Spirit makes a believer one with God in just the same way–the exact same way that Jesus is one with Father. “I in them and You in Me….”

Therefore I am saying to you and to me–we are in heaven just as much as after death. We are in the Lord Jesus NOW….Which means we are in Father’s bosom or heaven.

Joh 14:20  At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you.

At that day? Yes!!!! TODAY!!

May Father open our eyes to fully see this!! Oh dear saints of God!! Why do you stand gazing up into heaven? “This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.” Acts 1:11

This is why Paul was given further revelation….which he revealed to us.

2Co 3:18  But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.

2Co 4:6  For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

2Co 4:7  But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us.

Funny isn’t it…that Christians are longing to go to heaven…..but all creation is groaning waiting expectantly for the revealing of the SONS of God. Christians cannot wait to get out of here….but there are those who have caught hold of His heart and He their’s….they are realising by the Spirit in them that they are as He is —even now in this age and in these bodies. They are realising that God is revealed through them just as they are–vessels containing the King of Kings.

We are the knowledge of God in the earth…we are the fragrance of Christ!! We are for the salvation and deliverance of all creation!! But not I…Christ that lives in me…and yet it is me. The new man created in true righteousness according to His image and likeness.

That is you too my friend.

Let it be to me according to your Word Lord.
