Being found worthy to escape all these things

Jesus told His disciples to pray always that you may counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass

Luk 21:25  “And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring;
Luk 21:26  men’s hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.
Luk 21:27  Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.
Luk 21:28  Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.”

Luk 21:34  “But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly.
Luk 21:35  For it will come as a snare on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth.
Luk 21:36  Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man.” [New King James Version]

Now no offence is meant here….but I tend to recoil at Jesus’ command here. Is He saying ‘by watching and praying you will be found worthy to escape’? Or is he saying we should pray always that God would find us worthy or deserving to escape. Either one equals works which I simply cannot do. I cannot watch enough and pray enough to be accounted worthy! Sure, I have prayed this prayer before and mentioned it in my writing. But when I encounter any sense of being responsible to get myself out of trouble it leaves me cold. On my own I fail all the time. With Jesus in my heart I still fail to keep commandments. No pretending about it.

Some will scoff at me thinking themselves to be great prayer warriors who can pray and watch and get their prayers answered. They will escape, but most will not…So they reason anyway.

God knows me. He knows how weak I am He knows I will never endure without Him. If it is up to me alone I am lost!

I find that if we only read Jesus in the Gospels we can easily come away feeling defeated and condemned by what it appears He is saying. Jesus needs to be interpreted through Paul and He left Paul and John and the others to do just that.

So we often see in Paul that he has picked up on what the Lord taught and interprets it through the mystery of the good news given by Jesus to him for us the Church. Some people think Paul disagrees with Jesus, even claiming he is a heretic. If Paul is a heretic then so is Jesus for Jesus gave Paul his message. Peter said some things Paul preached are hard to understand –yes true, if you have only been reading the Old Testament and read Jesus in the same way. We must read all Scripture through the revelation given to Paul.

So concerning being counted worthy to escape the things that are coming– we see Paul and the others writing to encourage the Thessalonians during severe tribulation and persecution in that city.

Immediately we see that they were praying for the Thessalonian believers to receive GRACE AND PEACE. Now I have quoted from the NKJV but have also copied Daniel Yordy’s The Jesus Secret Version [JSV] below

2Th 1:1  Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy, To the church of the Thessalonians in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ:
2Th 1:2  Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. nkjv

Understand that in Paul’s gospel –this grace and peace does not descend from out there somewhere, or up in heaven, but from within your spirit where God dwells. God has not left you alone to somehow try with all your heart to make it to the end. Grace and Peace from within your spirit carries you all the way through all difficulties and trials.

2Th 1:3  We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is fitting (axios)-, because your faith grows exceedingly, and the love of every one of you all abounds toward each other,
2Th 1:4  so that we ourselves boast of you among the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that you endure,

2Th 1:3 We are committed to thanking God [speaking good grace] always concerning you, brothers and sisters, according to the proportion and weight of value because your faith is increasing beyond measure and the love of each one of you all is super-abounding into one another [full back-and-forth reciprocity].

2Th 1:4 So for ourselves, we boast in you in the churches of God for the sake of your steadfastness [perseverance – bearing under for the sake of others] inside of all the persecutions against you and the pressures within and without that you are enduring.

Here above, we see that these believers were in a situation just like what Jesus had described in Luke 21:35,36. They were right in the midst of it! And Paul and Sylvanus and Timothy were committed to praying for them. But not praying God would give them something that they did not have already…no. They were as Daniel Yordy translates it, ‘speaking good grace always concerning’ them. They were thanking God that the Church is filled full with all the fullness of God, that she is the very image and likeness of God, filled with love and peace and good fruits by Jesus Christ. They were speaking out to God into the spiritual heavens of all the inner substance that their brethren in Thessalonica contained and were – by faith.

And they did this because as the NKJV says, “as it is fitting”to do so. But the JSV brings out the true meaning of the word axios translated as fitting here. It says- “according to the proportion and weight of value”….

Thayer’s dictionary says that axios means

1) weighing, having weight, having the weight of another thing of like value, worth as much

This is amazing and speaks of the union of two sharing the same form– that is Jesus and the believer. Jesus and the believer are two people sharing the same form. Paul called that symmorphos

summorphos – G4832
Thayer Definition:
1) having the same form as another, similar, conformed to

See Php_3:10; Php_3:21; Rom_8:29;
Now this is important to see….I am seeing it as I type! axios is the root of the last half of a compound word Jesus used in Luke 21:35.

G2661
καταξιόω
kataxioō
Thayer Definition:
1) to account worthy, judge worthy

Kata=pertaining to , as touching, beside,…

axioo is from axios meaning 1) weighing, having weight, having the weight of another thing of like value, worth as much.

Thus when Jesus says pray that you may be counted worthy(kata/axioo) the answer is already provided by the time the actual tribulation came upon the disciples. For by then, they were in intimate union of spirit with the most VALUABLE PERSON IN THE UNIVERSE. They shared the same weight of value as Jesus because HE GAVE HIS OWN VALUE TO THEM!! HIS VALUE AS GOD’S SON HE DID NOT HOARD TO HIMSELF, BUT JOYFULLY EMBRACES US AS BRETHREN AND GIVES US HIS INESTIMABLE VALUE AND WEIGHT OF GLORY!!! WE ARE WORTH AS MUCH AS JESUS BECAUSE JESUS IS THE ONLY LIFE WE POSSESS!! WE ARE CONFORMED TO THE SAME IMAGE OF THE SON OF GOD…..SAME IMAGE, SAME WORTH OF VALUE….WE ARE ACCOUNTED WORTHY TO ESCAPE THESE THINGS AS WE  LIVE IN THIS REALITY OF OUR/HIS BEING ONE.

So instead of worrying , “Will I be found worthy to escape these things that are coming?” Know and be at rest that of course you will be found worthy for Jesus is your weight of value before God and in the Kingdom.

Then Paul writes that this endurance and love that they are showing –born out from this union with Jesus —is proof and evidence that they are of the same weighty substance as Jesus Christ, sharing the same form with Him in their hearts.

2Th 1:5  which is manifest evidence of the righteous judgment of God, that you may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you also suffer; nvjv

2Th 1:5 This is clear evidence of the righteous judgment of God as to your great value into the kingdom of God, for the sake of which you also suffer. jsv

WONDERFUL GOD!! THROW AWAY THE NEW KING JAMES RENDERING AND REJOICE IN WHAT IT REALLY SAYS! “This is clear evidence of the righteous judgment of God as to your great value into the kingdom of God, for the sake of which you also suffer.” The righteous symmorphic judgement of God is that you are of great value, sharing the same value and form as Jesus Christ!!

Do you see how the translators have made it seem like God will choose the ones who are trying really hard to love and to endure? But that the true meaning is that right from the start YOU HAVE BEEN MADE VALUABLE AND WORTHY BY GOD’S GREAT GRACE INSIDE JESUS LIVING IN YOUR HEART.

Then Paul speaks of how the Lord will give rest to us and to those persecuting us He shall give tribulation and punishment……and then what I wanted to get to again….this business of being found worthy which Jesus spoke of in Luke 21:36

2Th 1:11  Therefore we also pray always for you that our God would count you worthy[axioo] of this calling, and fulfill all the good pleasure of His goodness and the work of faith with power,
2Th 1:12  that the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and you in Him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ. [NKJV]

Again it seems like the responsibility is really ours…we must somehow get something from God to make us worthy. But Paul is praying for them exactly what Jesus told the disciples to pray for themselves. Paul in Christ’s stead –with Jesus inside His heart– is praying for them to be found worthy to escape all these things. Jesus is fulfilling the responsibility through Paul’s prayers. The JSV again brings it out….

2Th 1:11 Into this we also always pray concerning you, that you may be counted the full value[axioo] of the calling of our God, and that He may fulfill every good pleasure of goodness and work of faith inside of power

2Th 1:12so that the name of our Lord Jesus might be glorified inside of you, and you inside of Him, down to the finest details of the grace of our God [God as the gift] and the Lord Jesus Christ. [ JSV ]

Jesus/Paul prayed that you may be counted the full value of the calling of our God. The word is axioo again. From axios….. 1) weighing, having weight, having the weight of another thing of like value, worth as much. Thayer. And you do. So it really Jesus is praying for us that we have our spiritual eyes open and the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him—that He indeed is ONE SPIRIT with us and we are bone of his bone and flesh of His flesh. …that just as He is so are we…that we are sharing the same form with Jesus…He living as me and me living as me is He. …For then Paul/Jesus pray that God may fulfill every good pleasure of goodness and work of faith inside of power.

GOD DOES THE WORK…GOD DOES THE FILLING….WE BELIEVE AND THEREFORE WE SPEAK

Being counted worthy to escape is a promise from Father

As I said above sometimes reading Jesus words can leave us feeling condemned and puts us into striving to be ultra religious….in other words we think Jesus is laying a heavy load on us to perform spiritually, when of course He isn’t. God’s promise is that we would be made worthy with the same worthiness that belongs to Jesus….Jesus knew that but there many things He wanted to tell the disciples but could not share them for the work of the Cross and the indwelling of the Spirit had not yet been accomplished.

We see in the Prophets that our Father had promised to make a people His treasured possession, His jewels of great value. What people? Those who were discussing among themselves (and to themselves) the apparent contradictions seen in this world.

Mal 3:13  You have said horrible things about me, and yet you ask, “What have we said?”
Mal 3:14  Here is what you have said: “It’s foolish to serve the LORD God All-Powerful. What do we get for obeying him and from going around looking sad?
Mal 3:15  See how happy those arrogant people are. Everyone who does wrong is successful, and when they put God to the test, they always get away with it.”

Mal 3:16  All those who truly respected the LORD and honored his name started discussing these things, and when God saw what was happening, he had their names written as a reminder in his book.

They could see both sides and decided consciously to give thanks despite the outer evidence saying that the wicked go unpunished but we suffer. In other words they REPENTED for speaking the accusations thrown at God by the Devil which he wants us to speak. But these people began to discuss–to see what was happening and to speak good grace instead–deliberately, as determined act of their will. They spoke grace grace to it as Zerubbabel had done before them. They were , with God, in faith, turning all things together towards goodness.

As a result of aligning themselves with God He says

Mal 3:17  “They shall be Mine,” says the LORD of hosts, “On the day that I make them My jewels. And I will spare them As a man spares his own son who serves him.”nkjv

Mal 3:17  Then the LORD All-Powerful said: You people are precious to me, and when I come to bring justice, I will protect you, just as parents protect an obedient child.
Mal 3:18  Then everyone will once again see the difference between those who obey me by doing right and those who reject me by doing wrong. [CEV]

Thus obeying the Gospel in Paul’s mind is speaking good grace and faith filled words of truth in the face of the difficulty, bearing up under it for the sake of others. “This is clear evidence of the righteous judgment of God as to your great value into the kingdom of God…”2Thess 1:5

Being accounted worthy to escape these things is the deliberate receiving of the Good news Paul preached, the believing of his testimony regarding the mystery of Christ within, leading to the bold declaring of our complete union inside of Jesus with He living with us and as us just the way we are, and us being His manifestation in the earth—again, just the way we are.

Being His Jewels of Great Value

The word for jewels in Malachi 3:17 is  סְגֻלָּה
segûllâh meaning to shut up; wealth (as closely shut up): – jewel, peculiar (treasure), proper good, special.

Being made one with Jesus through belief in the truth makes you God’s treasured possession of great value. You now share the same weight as the One you are O/one with. You now share the same form with Jesus. You are closely shut up inside of God’s very heart! Your life is hid with Christ…(Col 3:3)

And the context of being closely shut up in God….like a jewel in a jewellery box…is when He comes to bring justice.

“They shall be Mine,” says the LORD of hosts, “On the day that I make them My jewels. And I will spare them As a man spares his own son who serves him.

So do we see that this passage is the same as Luke 21:35.36 and also 2 Thess 1?

Being spared the wrath of God is escaping the things that are coming-Luke21:35 and is because you are counted worthy–of great value. 2Thess 1:11

And I just saw this too!! He has made you His JEWEL…..JEW….EL!! God has made all those who trust in Jesus Christ JEWS for He is the King of the Jews and we have been grafted into His line. A Jewel is a Jew – El.

God says He will spare His Jews El’s Jews. That is all those who have come to the King of Judah–Yeshua ha Meshiac

Rom 2:28  For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh;
Rom 2:29  but he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the Spirit, not in the letter; whose praise is not from men but from God.

This is not so called “replacement theology”. We have been grafted into The JEW–JESUS. All people can be grafted into Him for He is the only way to the Father for anyone–be they natural Jews or Gentiles. What the natural Jew wants is to be superior to all other people…but God has no favourites…and has made all of us equal through the Cross of Jesus. Anyway….One day soon the following passage will be fulfilled for millions of Jews.

Zec 4:6  So the angel explained that it was the following message of the LORD to Zerubbabel: I am the LORD All-Powerful. So don’t depend on your own power or strength, but on my Spirit.
Zec 4:7  Zerubbabel, that mountain in front of you will be leveled to the ground. Then you will bring out the temple’s most important stone(capstone) and shout, “God has been very kind.”[CEV]

Being found WORTHY to be spared….being God’s Jewel of great value….is not by might, nor by power, but by His Spirit. No man can pray enough, worship enough, be good enough keep laws enough to become a Jewel of God. One must simply ACCEPT the CAPSTONE of great value and importance. The capstone is JESUS and we are being built together as His temple–Jew and Gentile…to shine forth His glory in the heavens and the earth.

God has been very kind….

They will say this of Jesus when He sets them free from the idolatry of a man made Temple…..

Indeed God has been very kind to us in sending from His own heart His most precious possession of all–His Jew El–JESUS–יְשׁוּעָה
