Be sure your sins shall find you out?

A popular thought used by many preachers is that you can “be sure your sins shall find you out”. Yet God says also that love covers a multitude of sins.

The justification for this saying is taken from the story of Reuben and Gad, the Two tribes that settled on the east side of the Jordan.

Num 32:23  But if you do not do so, then take note, you have sinned against the LORD; and be sure your sin will find you out.

What sin was Moses talking about? They had promised that they would not enter their inheritance until all Israel had obtained theirs first. So if they broke their promise God would ensure they were corrected in some way. Even so there is mercy with Father for Moses said…

Num 32:30  But if they do not cross over armed with you, they shall have possessions among you in the land of Canaan.”

So even if they went back on their pledge, they were still going to inherit land in Canaan among their other brother tribes. That is unmerited favour right there isn’t it? They fail to keep their promise, but still keeps his. Yes God will correct them…not for failing to put others first, but for promising to do it in the first place! God knows we are unable….so He is merciful to our unrighteousness.

Jesus said DO NOT PROMISE TO DO ANYTHING!!

Mat 5:33  “Again you have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not swear falsely, but shall perform your oaths to the Lord.’
Mat 5:34  But I say to you, do not swear at all: neither by heaven, for it is God’s throne;
Mat 5:35  nor by the earth, for it is His footstool; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King.
Mat 5:36  Nor shall you swear by your head, because you cannot make one hair white or black.
Mat 5:37  But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No.’ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one.

Do not swear at all because you cannot make it come to pass. Jesus said ‘Of mine own self I can do nothing!’ Jn 5.

So as far as our sin finding us out in the context of this verse used by many preachers …..the sin is promising to do something and not doing it. We are warned by Jesus not to promise. But even if we do break our promise, God knew in advance we couldn’t keep it, and will still provide an inheritance for us as he said he would for the Reubenites and the Gadites. That is our Father.

Why is sin exposed? So the sinner can be healed. Not punished!! HEALED!!

There are many many preachers who want to see sinners punished. Punishment carries with it the ungodly idea that God punishes with no concern about the individual becoming better for it. God is our Father, the Father of all spirits…all people….whether they currently know Him or not. He corrects those He loves….and He loves all people.

Heb 12:6  FOR WHOM THE LORD LOVES HE CHASTENS, AND SCOURGES EVERY SON WHOM HE RECEIVES.” Joh 3:16  For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. Joh 3:17  For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. Joh 3:18  “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Those who do not believe are perishing now. They are condemned now. God does not want them to be. Jesus has already dealt with the sin problem. ALL are forgiven, ALL are justified, ALL are reconciled. They just have not received it yet. Because they have not received Jesus yet, they remain under condemnation as if Jesus has not died for them. But He did for them as much as He died for us who believe. Without faith it is impossible to please God. They need to believe to be saved….not to stop sinning!!

Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you and all your household shall be saved. It does not say stop sinning and you shall be saved. BELIEVE!!!

BELIEVE WHAT?

Good question. This comes down to what Gospel is being preached. What is God? Who is Jesus? What has He accomplished for us?

We are not to tell people that they are sinners, they know that. They need to hear that they are forgiven and reconciled to Father through what Jesus did for them. In hearing that, they are free to reject it. But in rejecting Jesus, they remain in a state of CONDEMNATION.

HEAR THIS—IT IS A STATE OR CONDITION OF CONDEMNATION  WITHIN THEMSELVES.

God their Father IS NOT CONDEMNING THEM. God does not do such a thing. Satan is the one condemning them, and they themselves condemn themselves for they are trying to establish their own righteousness instead of receiving the gift of God– RIGHTEOUSNESS THROUGH THE FAITH OF JESUS CHRIST.

Love covers…..grace covers…..Law exposes…..Satan condemns. There is nothing wrong with the Law of God if it is used lawfully. The Law exposes the fact that we fall short of God’s perfection in our own strength. The Law shows us we need a Saviour! Once we come to Jesus we are no longer under the Law, but now are a new creature born into the Kingdom of the Son of His love. Love fulfils the Law. Love covers sin. Love does NOT KEEP A RECORD OF PEOPLE’S SINS.

GOD is Love–God does not keep a record of our sins!!!

Do you think God is going to bring up all your sins and throw them at you so that you can feel badly about your performance and promise to try harder to not sin? Friend reading this….that is not the New Covenant! That is a version of the Old Covenant which was a covenant of CONDEMNATION AND BONDAGE!!

2Co 3:9  For if the ministry of condemnation had glory, the ministry of righteousness exceeds much more in glory.

Yes, that’s right…Paul by the Spirit of Jesus called ‘trying to obey God’s laws’ the ministry of CONDEMNATION! And that same Spirit of Jesus said that it was passing away!

2Co 3:7  But if the ministry of death, written and engraved on stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of the glory of his countenance, which glory was passing away,

Trying to perform right for God is called DEATH by Jesus and such a thing only leaves the one trying in a state  of continuous CONDEMNATION!!

Preaching about sin and saying that “your sins shall find you out”…comes out of the DEATH AND CONDEMNATION in the minds of self-condemned preachers who live under the old covenant of death.

They are trying to get people to repent….imagining that they can stop sinning themselves. They should be preaching Jesus and His finished work, giving grace and hope to people that God HAS ALREADY forgiven all..ALREADY JUSTIFIED ALL…ALREADY RECONCILED ALL…ALREADY GLORIFIED ALL. God has dealt with the old man already—all died in Christ…all shall be made alive in Him. Good news for the heart of mankind.
