The Lord says I am the Door

This post is me just poking around the edges of what it means for Jesus to be the Door. I am not able to preach fully what that means yet. As always I have no notes, I just open my mouth and begin. I had been thinking about the Door before going for a walk and preaching these little bits and had posted a few things on my Facebook profile. Dont forget to turn on the subtitles by clicking the gear symbol on the video

“Hey how are you? Just a quick message to encourage our hearts in the Lord.

The Lord says that He is the door to the Sheepfold he is the door and if anyone enters by me he will go in, he will be saved, he will go in and find pasture, go in and out, the Lord himself is the door.

So a door represents coming into a broad place when you go through the door of the Lord for you you come into a broad place.

And so before you enter in, in through the door that the Lord has before you, quite often it is a narrow door, a constricted confined pressurized place that we find ourselves in and all of this is to corral us into the Sheep gate, you know when you round up sheep you have to get them to go through that narrow way and while they’re in there the farmer does various things to his sheep before he lets them out the other end into the pasture.  So going through that narrow way is just as much the Lord being with you,  as going through the door and into the broad place,.. and all we want is to be in that broad place we don’t much like the narrow place that we have to be in before we enter into that broad place and yet it’s all the Lord’s doing he is the shepherd the Good Shepherd and he brings his sheep, he calls his sheep, it’s an inward calling, it’s an inward drawing, and you are his sheep he knows you by name, he is well acquainted with all your ways, that’s because Jesus Christ lives in your heart.

You know it seems pretty much to our soul that the Lord is far away that he’s up in heaven looking down from above but the Lord is with you, in you, and he wants to help us along the way that we find ourselves in, in the, in the difficult time, in the time where there is lack, where there is pressure, a financial pressure, perhaps sickness bringing pressure, all of these pressures are necessary for him to work upon our.. our Deep Mind, our inner mind, and to bring us to trust in him. It’s not easy on our own and so this is one of the things the Lord is doing, is to bring us to the place of no sufficiency in our self, no sufficiency Paul wrote in second Corinthians, no sufficiency in yourself.

So this whole idea that we’re supposed to have it together, we’re supposed to know how to do good and be good and be a Christian, or we’re supposed to know how to be a, be a good parent or a good marriage partner or a good daughter a good son all of these ideas that are about being good and not being bad is all to do with this self-sufficiency that we imagine we should have. It’s even something that people aspire to.. to be self-sufficient and there’s a whole industry making money off this self-sufficiency and yet the Lord made us weak he made us to be dependent upon him and also to be dependent upon others but firstly to be dependent upon him

You know the familiar things Jesus said to them that to “seek first the kingdom of God and all these things shall be added unto you” the things you need, because “the father knows the things you have need of”, so learning to depend upon the Lord is one of the major things in Walking with God and so I was reminded this morning of numbers 21 when the children of Israel had to go around the land of Edom. So it was quite a trek and because of that long re-routing if you like, where they had to go off the direct path and around a place where they were hostile to them, they went around  them and it says in numbers 21 that the soul of the people became discouraged, they became discouraged and they began to murmur against God and complain to Moses

“Why has God brought us into this Wilderness? There’s no food and there is no water here. Did he bring us out here to kill us??”

And so the way of the Lord is higher than our way. He took them that way and this is all an illustration for us in our day, in our spiritual life, in our walk with Jesus,,, That sometimes we find ourselves in a place of lack or a place of pressure and the soul becomes discouraged and we begin to complain and they cried to Moses to.. to “Pray for us” and Moses prayed for the people and God’s answer was really weird… Because they complained God sent serpents among them and the serpents bit them and so some of them were dying from these snake bites. Many had been bitten and they were waiting to die and this was because of their complaining and murmuring against God because he had shown them many mighty things and yet they still did not trust him and God told Moses ‘to make a bronze serpent and to put it on a pole and that whoever has been bitten who looks on the serpent will be healed will live.’

And we know in John’s gospel that this is repeated there with Jesus himself declaring “even as Moses lifted up the serpent on the pole so must the son of man be lifted up that whoever believes in him may not perish but may have age-unfolding life.”

So Jesus said “whoever believes” in Numbers it says “whoever looks on the serpent” and we know in Hebrews 12 it tells us “looking unto Jesus the author and finisher or perfector of our faith” it talks about “growing weary” there in in Hebrews 12. and it’s the same idea as Numbers 21. The people were discouraged they were weary they began to complain and this is what our soul does.  And so the Lord is training us, he is maturing us to come to the place where instead of complaining we will look Upon Jesus, we will look unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith, he is perfecting that which concerns you, he is doing a work in you, it doesn’t seem Pleasant at all!   Hebrews 12 goes on(says) it …doesn’t seem Pleasant at all to the soul but we can take courage that God sees the end though we might be in the darkness of the tunnel, though we might be in that narrow sheep race where the Sheep are corralled and being dealt with by the farmer, he cares for you, and he will will bring you through, he will transform the spirit of your mind, the Deep place of your mind, Ephesians 4 talks about being transformed in the spirit of your mind. So God loves you! He is a good shepherd. He loves his sheep. He gives his life for you.. constantly.. he is bearing you up and carrying you through this hard time and he will not leave you alone… and he will bring you into that broad place and you will know the provision of the Lord instead of being self-sufficient.

You know because

the world thinks self-sufficiency is something to aspire to. And uh they talk about self-made millionaires and yet that is just total delusion because all of us have our being, live and move and have our being inside of God, so though outwardly it might appear that someone is self-sufficient God is uh who they live in. And God’s favour, the old-time religion, they used to call it “the Providence of God” and it’s true! God has given Grace to humanity otherwise we’d all be wiped out and God is with all of us though we don’t know him, though we curse him, though we blaspheme him, though we ignore him, though we accuse him, God our Father Bears all this. It grieves him but he bears all this and he continues to bless us and causes rain to fall upon the good and on the wicked.. his sun to shine on us all whether we know him or not whether we curse him or not and he points us still to The Only Solution which is Jesus Christ crucified for us… Jesus crucified, hung on a pole like that serpent Moses made for us, that whoever looks to Jesus will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture and find rest for their soul.

So our soul can become very discouraged in the process that God brings us through and he’s bringing us to a door and as we enter in through that door, we come into a broad place.  a new place in God, it’s where he wants to bring all of us and I don’t believe it ever stops. God is is very deep and there is never an end to the liberty and ..and knowing the Liberty… knowing the goodness of God in our lives… and this is age unfolding life… this unfolds for us as we go on in our journey with him… But right now where you are at… the Lord wants you to trust… he wants you to begin to speak according to what does not yet appear… he wants you to speak it… that you are blessed ….that you have been provided for by your father… that there’s no way you can do it yourself…. but that he is with you going before you opening the door for you and that he is doing a deep work in your heart.

You see the Lord has not left you alone, but he has given you a helper the Holy Spirit, who is Jesus Christ himself dwelling inside your heart that you might rest your head upon his breast, that you might trust in him, and he will bring to you all those things that he has promised, because he is a faithful friend, right? a faithful God, an ever-present help in time of need, he is with you child, he is with you, so draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Yeah the soul complains and grumbles.. the Lord wants you to come to a place of thankfulness instead.. thank him. thank him.. “The fruit of our lips giving thanks unto his name”.

Take up the word of God the promises of God “which in him are yes and amen” and thank him. He knows your needs and he provides for you. “There is a river that makes glad the city of God” I think Psalm 38, it is.. there is a river that makes glad the city of God… Jesus said “You are a city set on a hill.” So there is a river that makes glad your heart – the city of God.. and that river is a River of Praise, it’s a river of words,, the Word of God, Jesus in your mouth will make glad your heart. The enemy wants you to complain, he buffets you, and he’s wanting you to blaspheme…

If you’ve done that.. just apologize to the Lord… and get back up.. and begin again speaking the words of life… the words of truth… go through the Psalms and speak out loud the things that David said. These are words from Jesus, these are the words of God.  And begin speaking your way forward. God will not forsake you, he will not leave you alone, Hebrews 13:5 says “Let your conduct be without covetousness for it is he who has said “I will never leave you nor forsake you” so we may boldly say, “the Lord is my helper, I will not fear, what can man do to me!” God is with you friend he’s with you be encouraged.

Hey I just want to share again about doors… as I just shared the Lord Jesus said “I am the door” in John chapter 10. And doors as I said represent going from one place into another and in your experience in the Lord there are certain doors that he wants to take you through according to the pattern of the Tabernacle, Moses’s Tabernacle, where we see the three doors of the Tabernacle. The first one called the gate into the outer Court, representing being born again, having your sins forgiven, and then the door into the holy place where we enter into the baptism, the full immersion in the Holy Spirit, and then the Veil into the holy of holies where we put on the Lord Jesus Christ as all that we are, where we enter into a shared life together, Jesus becoming all that we are….

So that we can say “if you’ve seen me you’ve seen the Lord” and that is the reality that Jesus has won for us, has purchased for us with his death and Resurrection and his ongoing Ministry. He lives fully in us, he is the door,,, And yet as I pondered these things this morning, what is it? the 10th of September 2023, I was reminded of the lame man in Acts chapter 3 who.. who was crippled from his mother’s womb and his parents used to, from a young age, and then perhaps even all of his life because he was crippled, would take him and lay him at the beautiful gate of the Temple, that’s what it was called, daily, and he would beg for alms, for charity.

And so he was crippled.. and he was laid at the door of the Temple… it’s very symbolic sort of picture um a one who has no self-sufficiency, he has nothing within himself that he can do to provide for himself, he couldn’t even get himself to the temple, he was taken there daily in hope that you know, no doubt his parents profited off this way of earning an income, which was a, you know, a shameful way of earning an income in one sense… But for him, that’s all he knew, that’s all he knew! So I’m not casting any shame or or negativity upon those who are crippled, if that’s where you find yourself, if your physical body is broken in some way, and infirm, there is no shame in that at all, because you are a soul, a living Soul living in that body, and the Lord Jesus loves you.

But this story is there for us to meditate upon and make of it what you will with the Holy Spirit in your heart, but here he was, laid at the gate, he was outside of the temple because it wasn’t lawful for him to go into the temple, not being whole in his body and uh, you know, the place the Lord wants us to be is inside of Jesus, inside of him, which speaks of that first gate into the Tabernacle of Moses.

If you don’t know the Lord Jesus you need to come through into, through the gate, and receive the Forgiveness of your sins, receive what Jesus did for you, First thing you meet when you go through that gate is the altar of sacrifice, and all of your sins were were put to death on the body of Jesus when he died for you, and all of his righteousness was put upon you.. so that God sees you now fully Justified and blameless in his sight because of the sacrifice Jesus made for you. He loves you friend and you can come under that Veil, put on the Lord Jesus Christ, under that gate, and come in to the Tabernacle, come into God through having Jesus Come into you.

You believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and his spirit will come into you and you’ll be born again, a new creature, “the old things have passed away behold all things have been made new.” Put your trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. So this, this man was outside of the gate of the temple and God sent Peter and John. I don’t know if they knew what they were going to do but they came to that gate and saw the lame man and suddenly Peter looking at him… looking at him… and the and the crippled man looking at Peter… thinking that he was going to receive something from them.. some.. a few drachmas, a few, few coins, like he was used to getting. Peter looking at him said, “Silver and Gold Have I None, but such as I have give I Thee. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. and he took him by the hand and lifted him and immediately his ankle bones received strength and he walked and leaped and praised God… he was healed.. being over 40 years old…

And so no doubt, he believed on the Lord Jesus Christ and entered into God that day,, he trusted in the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior.. because it was through that name that this man was made whole.. and it’s through the name of Jesus that he makes you and I whole… it’s through Jesus Christ himself because when you speak of a name you speak of the person.. and Jesus –God is salvation –Jesus our salvation makes us whole.. and he says “I am the door. Come in.. come in through me. “Come to me all you who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest” he says, Don’t stay outside the camp.. Don’t stay outside the door.. Come to the door.. Come to.. to Jesus Christ… your sins are forgiven you.. Jesus already did that!

Jesus already paid the price with his blood he already washed you, and cleansed you, believe on the Lord Jesus Christ today and come in to the Good Shepherd who loves you and calls you by name.

Hey again. You know it it seems like the Lord keeps speaking to me about doors.. d -double o- r -s, doors… not the rock band. Jim Morrison.

I said earlier that a door represents coming into a new place going into a new room a new space a broad place..

I think again, it’s in the Scriptures, it talks about a broad place, a place of streams, place of rivers, Israel were promised a land flowing with milk and honey, all these things are speaking to us, and the door primarily is the door that is within us. Jesus said “Behold I stand at the door and knock whoever opens the door here’s my voice and opens, hears me knocking, which is his, which is his voice however that voice manifests, it doesn’t have to be actual voice you hear, it can be a scripture come to mind, it can be through other people, it can be the lyrics of a song, that you will know when the Lord is knocking, if you hear me knock and open the door I will come into him and dine with him, my father and I will dine with you. So that door is within us.

Scripture says ask and it shall be given, seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened to you. James says, “whoever lacks wisdom let him ask of God who gives to all liberally and without reproach, but let him ask in faith, not doubting, he who doubts is like a wave of the sea…is like a double-minded man, a twin Souled Man… let not that man or woman suppose he’ll receive anything from the Lord… so let him ask in faith. Jesus said “Ask believing that you have received with no doubting” if you do not doubt in your heart but believe that the things you’ve asked for you have received, you shall .. you shall receive them.

so I, I was walking, and I felt the Lord was saying there is something else I want you to share today being the 10th of September 2023,,, let him ask in faith ,,,believing that he has received,,, and he shall receive… ask and it shall be given to you… knock and the door shall be open to you…

So you know… Jesus spoke about the wedding feast… and he said in a parable he said that there was a man who came into the wedding feast and he didn’t have on the wedding garment

and the man in the feast who was running the things said “Friend how did you get in here? How did you get in here without a wedding garment?” and he cast him out so there is a prescribed way to get in… Jesus says “I am the way.. the truth.. and the life.. whoever comes through me… will go in and out and find pasture… I am the door. So the prescribed way into God is Jesus Christ. He is the door! He’s knocking on your heart door and perhaps you are knocking on his,.. but you don’t realize it.

You see it’s so easy to get our eyes on what’s happening to us. The circumstances that are pressuring us and we don’t realize that this is God knocking on our door… “You need me’.. “You need me”… “You need me”.. is with each knock of circumstance…. “You can’t do it on your own…you need me!”

So when we come to the door it’s usually because we’re being forced to and we’re not aware of… not realizing what’s going on.. we’re just desperate. And our soul is taking the upper hand and and coming up with all sorts of solutions. The man who was laid at the gate beautiful in Acts chapter 3 that was his accustomed way… that was the way he got money.. begging… that’s what he was used to doing.. begging… and he had no problem with it I’m sure… because that’s all he could do.. and the Lord brought him into a new place because he was healed… he didn’t have to do that anymore.. you know…

And sometimes after we come to Jesus.. if our way has been begging then our soul is trained in that way to continue to beg… and God wants to teach us and show us to trust in him because when we come into Jesus he promises that all things will be provided for us by his father Our Father. And yet we carry on with our old methods until we learn to let that go and trust in him.

No doubt that.. that man. who was a cripple from birth.. no doubt his parents were not too happy at first… part of them was probably a bit upset, a bit worried about ‘How are we going to get any money now that our beggar is not,,, uh crippled anymore.’ I’m sure things worked out well.. he would have been able to get a job.. earn an income.

So I don’t know what the Lord is saying really. There’s a few messages in here. He is the door… he wants us to acknowledge that we can’t come in… he wants us to ask and seek and knock… but we have to believe and not doubt… believe that he has heard us… believe that he is with us…. believe that he loves us… that he cares for us… “Cast all your cares upon me” he says, “For I care for you.” No one cares for you more than he does and he’s in you, he’s with you at the door, so to open the door, just believe.

“Lord Jesus you are my life.. you are my inner nature… you live fully inside of me Lord Jesus ..and I live fully inside of you.. there is nothing that’s happening in my life right now that you do not know about… and intimately share with me… so Lord I cast all my cares upon you… I cast all of my worries upon you… and all of my doubts upon you… I cast them on you too Lord… and you will and you have provided for me all my needs.”

There is a way that seems right to a man but in the end it leads to death… that’s repeated twice in Proverbs… there is a way that seems right to us.

Just wait on the Lord and be of good courage and he will do it… He will bring you through the Red Sea. Seemed like an impossible situation and there was no way they could cross over and get away from the pressure that was behind them in the form of pharaoh and his army… But God opened up the way… and God LED them through the sea onto dry ground… and God caused their hearts to rejoice in what he had done. “Stand still and see the salvation of the Lord” That was the prophetic word given to them… and I believe it’s the same word given to you who are hearing me today… Stand still and see what the Lord will do for you!

Jehoshaphat prayed the same thing in second chronicles 20.[2Chron 20:15] He said the same thing.. they sent Praises ahead.. praise.. the Army… the soldiers came second… the praise worshipers went out ahead… and they trusted in the Lord… and sought for first the Lord.. and his righteousness.. and the enemy was taken care of… and they came into that broad place. Perhaps you need to do that?

Just rest. Set your mind on things above.. Cause your mind to be stayed on Jesus Christ. How do you do that? You know.. How do you do that? You can use scripture.. but just speak.. the most powerful weapon you have is your tongue… and so often it defeats us.. but speak words of faith out of your mouth… look in the mirror if you have to… “God is with me.” “God is for me.” “We will be okay.” “We will come through this.. he has already provided a solution. Abraham said, when Isaac said, “Father you’ve got wood for the fire but where is the sacrifice, where is the lamb?” and Abraham in faith said to his son “The Lord shall provide a lamb.” And you know when he got up on top of Mount Moriah there was a ram caught by its horns in the thicket.

There was the sacrifice, which of course speaks of Jesus our sacrifice through whom all things are given to us, all things have been given to us through Jesus,… so do not doubt and be like a wave of the sea tossed to and fro… do not be twin souled today…. you have the mind of Christ.. and he trusts fully in his father… you can lean into that… and just say “Lord let it be unto me according to your word You have provided for me,.. thank you Jesus… and just leave it with him… he’ll do it!
