The first line is from the NABRE – (New American Bible revised edition). It translates Satan’s words in Genesis 3:5 as “you will be like gods knowing good and evil”….just as the King James version translates it.
The second line is the NASV -New American Standard- which show the translators believe that Satan meant it is God who knows good and evil -not gods(angels).
Why is this important?
Jesus said that Satan is a liar and murderer from the beginning. Jn 8:44. The purpose of his lies are to kill, to steal and to destroy. He wanted to malign God’s nature from the beginning in order to turn man away from Life abundantly to being stolen from, murdered and destroyed. The destruction is the result of believing the lie…Separation from God is destruction. At the root of all those negative things is a belief we hold about God that is in fact FALSE. This is why it is important to see that God DOES NOT KNOW GOOD AND EVIL.
The word knowing or know is YADA – it is used to know someone carnally- as in sexual union.
“Adam knew(yada) Eve his wife”
Gen 4:1 Now Adam knew(yada)Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore…”
Adam did not just know intellectually — he BECAME ONE WITH HER!!
That is what is is to KNOW GOOD AND EVIL…
Adam knew Eve – YADA – God knows evil
Here is the principle of KNOWING in the sense that YADA conveys in Genesis 3:5 and Gen 3:22
1 Cor 6:15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a harlot? Certainly not! 16 Or do you not know that he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her? For “the two,” He says, “shall become one flesh.” 17 But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.
He who knows a sexual partner becomes ONE with that person….to yada Eve means to become ONE with Eve. She now has become one like you and you have become one like her…through the intimate KNOWING of each other. That is why having many sexual partners fractures the soul into many pieces. All of your previous sexual unions have made you ONE with that person’s soul and flesh. They are still a part of you.
It is not an intellectual exercise of learning what is good and what is evil…Rather it is an INTRINSIC KNOWING –a knowing that comes out of UNION WITH GOOD AND EVIL!!
That means that GOD IS BOTH GOOD AND EVIL….
To know someone –to truly yada them..is to become ONE WITH THEM.
This is why the KJV and a few others left it as “become like gods knowing good and evil”…not God.
Ramifications
Can you trust and fully lean upon a God who supposedly KNOWS/YADA —is ONE WITH EVIL?
Here lies the Serpent’s hiss!
Here lies the trigger for so much psychosis!
“Is God angry with me today or happy? Is God for me today or against me? Does God love me today or perhaps he hates me? Will I be saved or will He damn me?”
If perhaps God does NOT YADA EVIL –is not one with it– then such a God is ONLY GOOD…which means I can fully lean upon him to be good and do good all the time.
Funny that the Psalmist says the same…
Psalm 119:68You are good, and do good; Teach me Your statutes.
God’s nature is ONE….untainted, unsullied…ONE.
He is ONLY GOOD….in a way that our natural minds cannot understand. When we hear that word GOOD….we automatically think of the opposite to give some context to the word. We think…God is good… that means God is not evil. But if God knows and is ONE with good and evil …then God cannot be good….because the real meaning of being good is to HAVE NO DARKNESS IN YOU AT ALL.
James 1:17Every good gift and every perfect giftis from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.1 John 1:5This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.
God did not have to work at being good….He did not have to work hard to remove any darkness from Himself…
HE IS GOODNESS!
HE IS LIGHT!
HE IS LOVE!
For us humans — we imagine that if I want to be good…like God…then I must somehow get rid of the evil that is in me.
And as Christians we know that the blood of Jesus forgave us our evil deeds.
But we still entertain the idea that we are somehow intrinsicly evil. Forgiven yes…but still evil.
This is the LIE that is tied to the ACCUSATION against God that HE KNOWS EVIL.
I am sure that the majority of people read Genesis 3 and think that it is reasonable that God would know good and evil. They only see the surface meaning of such a statement. They reason that God knows right from wrong and has the power to choose what is right…and at times has the right and privilege to do evil to people because he is God.
That is a sick God!! If God has the right to do evil then He is evil!!
But doing evil NEVER ENTERS GOD’S MIND!! Why? Because HE DOES NOT KNOW IT. Evil is not a part of his nature.
PURITY–VIRGIN—ALL LIGHT–ALL CHASTE–ALL OPEN–TRANSPARENT–PERFECT–GOODNESS—LOVELINESS.
The reason why most do not see that God does NOT KNOW GOOD AND EVIL...is because they KNOW GOOD AND EVIL!!
Satan knew that through eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil-–they would become ONE WITH HIM(the fallen angel Satan)!!
To eat from the tree of Life in the centre of the Garden was to eat from God Himself….Jesus the LIVING BREAD. ALL GOODNESS!! All purity..all light.
But they rejected Jesus(Life) and ate from that which would separate them (in their minds) from God(Life).
The lie is that you are good and evil….because God is good and evil…So therefore you must overcome the evil inside you and try all you can to be good everyday otherwise the Good/Evil God shall punish you for being the way you are.
What a load of rubbish, but this is what most believe.
