This verse is taken out of context all the time by my unbelieving brethren. It is used to prove eternal damnation in Hell. Yet it’s real meaning is nothing like that, but instead is a good judgment, a judgement unto LIFE and Righteousness.
Jesus Christ appeared to PUT AWAY SIN…..by BEARING the sins of many. We know from Paul’s other writings that when he says “many” he means ALL.
Heb 9:26 He then would have had to suffer often since the foundation of the world; but now, once at the end of the ages, He has appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself.
Okay did you read that verse?
Question: Has Jesus put away sin or not?
According to unbelieving Christians: “No! Jesus has certainly NOT put away sin.“ They say this because their salvation is all about sin. Without sin and it’s imagined consequences–ie- ‘Eternal punishment’- most would not bother “attending church”.
Has Jesus put away sin? That is, has He Annulled sin, has Jesus reduced sin to nothing; did He obliterate sin? Did Jesus make sin void or of no effect; Did He nullify,abolish and do away with sin??
ACCORDING TO YOUR BIBLE: YESSSSS JESUS HAS PUT AWAY SIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He has put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself. He did it. It is done. Sin is no more an issue. At least NOT TO GOD.
But people are reminded of sin all the time everyday…..but NOT BY GOD. Who is reminding people about sin then if it isn’t God?
Rev 12:10 Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, “Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down.
Rev 12:11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.
The Accuser of our brethren. He is the one accusing people and reminding them about sin….which by the way, HAS BEEN PUT AWAY by Jesus Christ ALREADY.
We the Church should be reminding them and ourselves of the truth that sin HAS BEEN PUT AWAY…..THAT WE ARE FORGIVEN…WE ARE JUSTIFIED BEFORE GOD through that ONE sacrifice for sins forever!!
Christians like to think that sin is only put away for us…but for all those others sin is their problem….it will send them all to Hell!!
NOOOO!!!
Sin is NOT their problem…sin is put away. UNBELIEF is the problem. Blindness of heart.
And as I wrote before the word here for sin is harmartia–which means falling short, or missing the mark. That mark is to be like Jesus. The reason why we have not been like Jesus is because we hold to a view of ourselves that ‘we are separated from God and are responsible to try to be like Jesus by trying to obey Him’.
Jesus came and abolished sin by walking in perfect UNION with the Father, so that if you have seen Me you have seen the Father….and I and the Father are ONE.
Now this same Jesus has COME INTO YOUR SPIRIT to be your very life…so that you and He are ONE SPIRIT.(1COR6:17) You now are as He is. Say it out loud….
I AM AS HE IS….again…I….AM….AS….HE….IS!!
1Jn 4:17 Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world.
So the writer of Hebrews goes onto the logical outcome after saying “…..once at the end of the ages, He has appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself he says….
Heb 9:27 And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment,
Heb 9:28 so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many(to put away sin -vs26). To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.
Do you see it or is your HELL doctrine blocking your mind?
Christ Jesus HAS ENSURED THAT YOUR JUDGEMENT IS GOOD!! Christ was offered once for all men/people.
“as it is appointed for men to die once”
Meaning ALL PEOPLE right….all people die once….do you see the scope or breadth of this statement. It is the same as in Romans 5.
Many means all!!
Rom 5:15 But the free gift is not like the offense. For if by the one man’s offense many died, much more the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abounded to many.
Paul tells us that many died through Adam’s offence. How many is many? Did a few of Adam’s descendants come under the curse of death through his sin or ALL of them? ALL OF THEM DID!!
Thus the free gift of grace abounded to that same MANY—ALLLLLLLL!!!!!!
Jesus sacrifice was for all of Adam’s kin. From God’s side ALL HAVE BEEN MADE RIGHT WITH HIM ALREADY through the sacrifice of Jesus. Most remain enemies of God nonetheless because they do not believe it.
Back to Hebrews 9 and the Judgement
As it is appointed for men to die once…ALL men….So the same all men who Paul wrote about in Romans 5.
The Judgement comes after death…and it was NOT LOOKING GOOD FOR MAN before Jesus sacrificed Himself for all.
But JESUS has “borne the sins of many”….and he “has put away sin”….according to 9:26 & 28 SO THAT THE JUDGEMENT AFTER DEATH IS A JUDGEMENT TO LIFE…AND TO RIGHTEOUSNESS AND TO HOLINESS AND TO UNION WITH GOD AND TO FAITH INSIDE JESUS.
Using Hebrews 9:27 to scare people because of a future terrifying judgement is totally wrong!! Not just wrong but it belittles the SACRIFICE JESUS MADE FOR ALLLLLL PEOPLE.
See the verse in context…..After this the judgement…..which Christ has taken care of by sacrificing Himself for all and putting sin away for all and bearing the sins of allll.
He has done it!!! Aren’t you glad?!

Wait there’s more
Heb 9:28b To those who eagerly wait[apekdechomai] for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.
Okay who are “those who eagerly wait for Him” ??
Try this group of beings on for size…and tell me whether they fit the phrase in Hebrews 9:28b or not.
Rom 8:19 For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits[apekdechomai] for the revealing of the sons of God.
Rom 8:20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope;
Rom 8:21 because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.
The creation fits the verse in Hebrews 9.
The CREATION eagerly waits for Him who will appear a second time apart from sin for salvation. The whole of creation is groaning in earnest expectation, waiting eagerly for the sons of God…..Waiting for Christ Jesus to be revealed in us who are the sons of God. The whole CREATION shall be delivered out of bondage—which is caused by living separated from God in our MINDS….through unbelief and hardness of heart. The whole creation shall see JESUS revealed in us His people as we put on the Lord Jesus and CONFESS the Lord Jesus and declare that He IS COME IN THE FLESH—OUR FLESH!!
We who know Him are eagerly waiting for Him, but Paul shows us that all creation is also eagerly waiting to GAZE UPON JESUS IN US WITH WIDE OPEN EYES. They don’t know Jesus yet…they groan inwardly to know God’s Son. The Judgement of God is that they CAN KNOW HIM….BECAUSE!!! BECAUSE!!!! BECAUSE JESUS HAS PUT AWAY THEIR SINS…AND JESUS HAS BORNE THEIR SINS ON THE CROSS. They are declared forgiven and righteous and just and innocent BY WHAT JESUS DID.
Hebrews 9:27 is not God saying you must choose between Heaven and Hell after you die. Rather it is Paul (or whoever wrote Hebrews)preaching the same good news message of sins forgiven and put away by a love sacrifice made on your behalf by a sinless Saviour.
In fact a few verses later Hebrews begins to talk about not having ANY SIN CONSCIOUSNESS AT ALL because of that ONE SACRIFICE FOR SINS.
God is not all caught up in thinking about sin. He dealt with it already!!
Soon the clear light of the goodness of God shall shine from His sons and daughters so that the dark shadows flee away and the light and love of Jesus shall come forth clearly into view.
