The Old Covenant was inadequate and never designed to last. It depended upon the efforts of the human to measure up to God’s standard. That is absurd!! It is a farcical covenant that mocks any attempt at keeping it. But those who try to keep it do not see the mockery. They pretend all is well. They pretend that they are keeping it to the best of their ability. The Old covenant is God giving humans over to the Devil to accuse them incessantly and to push and goad them along the way. The Old Covenant gives Satan opportunity to punish and accuse at will twenty four hours a day forever!
The old covenant is typified by this passage
Isa 14:12 “How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, You who weakened the nations!
Isa 14:13 For you have said in your heart: ‘I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation On the farthest sides of the north;
Isa 14:14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.‘
Isa 14:15 Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol, To the lowest depths of the Pit.
The self delusion of Lucifer is on full display here in the fourteenth chapter of Isaiah. The five “I WILL” claims of Lucifer are echoed my millions of humans who attempt to be justified by their own doing. Woe to you!! Woe to those trying to keep the Law! Woe to you. With cries of “I will obey You God!”….”I will try to be like you Jesus!” I WILLLLLL!!!!
O Really?
Those who are trying to be like Jesus are brought down to the lowest Pit. Those who are trying to be like Jesus want NOTHING to do with Jesus and have no need for the Cross. In fact those trying to be like Jesus hate the cross and prefer to be their own Saviour.
I like to listen to Scripture songs. Yet most songs I hear are from the Old Testament(Covenant). And it is obvious that the brethren who sing those songs are sincere. They are sincerely trying to please God by seeing those verses as their own responsibility to keep. An example?
Psa 119:10 With my whole heart I have sought You; Oh, let me not wander from Your commandments!
Psa 119:11 Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.
From the Old Covenant perspective–The statement above is MY RESPONSIBILITY TO DO…..The one trying to please God reads the words in the Bible and takes those words as INSTRUCTIONS in righteousness that he or she must keep in order to be pleasing to God.
The person believes that they have the responsibility to do things that will please God. This is directly joined to the imagined idea that they have some kind of inner ability to perform what God’s word tells them to. Both of those things–the responsibility and the ability are DELUSION and Confusion. They are the mind of Satan known as the mind of the flesh. They will ensure you stay SEPARATED from God in your imagination…you over there trying to do, do, do…so that God up there, will draw near to you, you, you. See me God? Do you see what I am doing for You???
Condemned. That is the result every time for the one under and still living in the Old Covenant system of doing to be made Righteous.
The New Covenant view of Psalm 119:10,11 goes like this.
I have wandered continually from Your commandments Lord! But you have given me a NEW HEART!! I am a new creature inside of Jesus Christ, the old I linked to all that responsibility stuff DIED on the cross inside You Jesus. And the New Heart I AM was raised up to newness of Life inside You my Lord and Saviour.
God my Father has hidden His Word–Jesus Himself – INSIDE MY NEW HEART!! Jesus is hidden with me inside our shared heart. Jesus is my new life, my only life. The RESPONSIBILITY is not mine, for I know of mine own self I can do NOTHING!! But Christ Jesus hidden in me is the FULL RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD….NOW my own righteousness. There is NO SINNING AGAINST GOD for the one believing into Jesus as His only life.
But the one who is born again, BUT who still imagines himself to have to do certain things OR ELSE!! That one is living separated from God (only in his mind) and is no different than a lost soul.
The Old Covenant shall never make anyone righteous. But millions are still trying anyway.
Jesus Christ IS the very RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD. And this JESUS has now been hidden inside your heart by God Himself so that you will not sin against Him.
You died sinner!
You now LIVE–Jesus/Anne…Jesus/Bob…Jesus/Bruce….Jesus/Alice…..etc etc.
Just as He is so are you……Just as you are so is He….YOU ARE ONE with Jesus and one with Father—-no doing on your part can make God do anything.
The Old Covenant is something to flee out of….flee from!
Go ahead and try to hide His word in your heart so you the separated sinner will not sin. It is Old Covenant rubbish…..or DUNG as Paul called it.
The Word is NEAR you, even in your mouth….for out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. And your heart is filled FULL with Jesus Christ if you have received Him.
Your heart is the very Ark of the Covenant…THE NEW COVENANT!! God has placed Himself inside your heart. You are the MERCY seat of heaven. You are the full expression of the glory of God.
