Circumstance beyond our control

For about two weeks I have had snippets of lyrics from Chrissie Hynde “Back on the chain gang” come bubbling up in my thoughts. I have not heard the song in years so I finally searched for the whole song tonight. Now I can see the Lord’s quiet way of teaching me something.

A circumstance beyond our control, oh oh oh oh
The phone, the TV and the news of the world
Got in the house like a pigeon from hell, oh oh oh oh
Threw sand in our eyes and descended like flies
Put us back on the train
Oh, back on the chain gang

The powers that be
That force us to live like we do
Bring me to my knees
When I see what they’ve done to you
But I’ll die as I stand here today
Knowing that deep in my heart
They’ll fall to ruin one day
For making us part

A circumstance beyond our control

The media whether it is through the Television, the radio or the mobile telephone broadcasts loudly day and night the news of the world. These are all events beyond our control. We have nothing to do with them…but the media is like a messenger pigeon from Hell forcing its insidious darkness into our house and home.

Feasting daily upon the dark events which are carried by the Media news is to listen to the boasting laughter of demons. The pigeon from Hell is an entry point for hordes of flies to invade your peaceful place and blind you like sand in your eyes.

Daily seeing bad stories brings a snare to the soul, making you a prisoner of Hell where all is dull and dead.
And what is painfully obvious from these lyrics is that these things are a circumstance beyond our control. We are powerless to do anything about it! Yet we may be the type of person who tries to do something about these atrocities. We may be tempted to fight the darkness.

Fighting the darkness is not our job, but BEING the light of the world is what and who W/we are. We are called to love and in loving we destroy the works of darkness.

Spirit filled believers tend to believe in a super Jesus and the idea that there are circumstances beyond our control is very annoying to say the least!

What!? I will pray and the situation will change!! I have all authority in Jesus name!!

But think of Joseph sold into slavery, put into prison for years!! Think of Job who lost all that he had. Think of Jesus who could do NOTHING of Himself. And that is a big point to make! A lot of Christians…well me anyway, hate circumstances that are beyond my control. They remind me just how weak I truly am. I may have all authority in Jesus name, but when things do not change year after year no matter how much you pray….then you may need to start giving thanks instead.

Many people get caught up in fighting the darkness, becoming crusaders against evil. Yet try as they may they cannot stop the evil from happening for even one day! Some try to expose the evil doings of governments and their secret service agents…but again, nothing changes, evil continues to do evil. Instead of overcoming evil the evil overcomes them and they lose some part of themselves to the evil powers that they have been fighting.

Marriages are ruined by one party of the marriage going off on this “prophetic” tangent always seeing the conspiracy, the demonic realm, the dark forebodings.

All this does is put us ‘back on the train again, back on the chain gang’. Prisoners of drudgery.

The good news is that the powers of the kingdoms of this world system are falling into ruin even as I write. The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdom of our God and He shall reign over all the earth.

These circumstances that are beyond our control are not for us to worry about. Turn off the media news. Overcome evil with good….for God shall soon crush Satan underneath our feet. And He shall do that through His love going forth from your heart to mine and my heart to yours. God overcomes through seeing only goodness….by choice…by faith!

Joseph’s circumstances finally changed for him when he came to accept his circumstances, to accept his lot in life. He committed himself to God no matter the outcome. He entrusted his spirit to God like Jesus when He said “Father into your hands I commit my spirit“.

We cannot control circumstances for we are weak. But we can give thanks to the Father in the midst of the circumstances and entrust our spirit to Father, come what may. If he delivers us good, if He does not deliver us, GOOD!!

  1. Hi Jennifer, thanks for your comment! Father has a habit of using song lyrics to speak to me. He is the living word after all! 🙂 Have fun in the jungles of Peru with your Israel and the little 4 ones. Blessing INSIDE, Dennis
