The most astounding verse of Scripture in the Bible is found in an equally astounding Chapter. I am referring to John’s Gospel chapter 14 and specifically verse 20.
It is a verse you should memorise and think upon, tossing it up and then digesting and tossing again. Ruminate on this word from Jesus for in it is complete rest and the secret of your identity.
John 14:20 At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you.
Jesus was speaking literally when He says “I am IN MY FATHER“. This is the amazing thing which God asks us to believe. Just as Paul wrote in Act 17:28 “….for in Him we live and move and have our being,…”
Mankind was created to dwell in the Father just as Jesus dwells in the Father. There really isn’t anywhere else to dwell. That other place is an imagined place of being a separate entity dwelling separated from God. It is the mind of the Serpent and fallen angel. No one actually dwells outside of God, all dwell in Him…all live, move and have their being in God….we just don’t know it. We don’t know it because the god of this world has blinded the minds of those who do not believe lest they see and hear and turn and be saved.
Jesus declared that He is IN the Father over and over again.
Joh 14:10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works.
Joh 14:11 Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, or else believe Me for the sake of the works themselves.
As you can see Jesus not only declared Himself to be in the Father but that the Father is in Him.
This is the reality of his humanity–In Father and Father in Him. So much so that if you have seen Jesus you have seen the Father. But who among us 2000 years later have seen Jesus? But we have seen other believers in Jesus have we not? The same is true of them/us as was/is true of Jesus.
We are in the Father —YOU are in the Father—and the Father is in you.
This is ONLY if you have received the Spirit of God—Spirit of Christ —Christ Jesus Himself.
Rom 8:9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.
Rom 8:10 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
John spent a lot of time in the Ephesian church Paul planted and taught in. Here in Romans we see the same union of Father and Son in us and with us.
We are IN the Spirit if the Spirit of God dwells IN us. You in Him and He in you…and Christ in you.
John 14:20 At that day you will know that….
I am in My Father,
and you in Me,
and I in you
What does that look like? It means if one sees you he sees the Father!! If one sees you he sees Jesus!! Yet equally true…if one sees you they see you!!
You see? God is NOT ASHAMED to call us BRETHREN!!
Heb 2:10 For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.
Heb 2:11 For both He who sanctifies and those who are being sanctified are all of one, for which reason He is not ashamed to call them brethren,
We are all of one!! We are all of one spirit! He that believes on Jesus is ONE SPIRIT WITH HIM. 1Co6:17
We are sons and daughters of God through Jesus dwelling in Father in us. No matter which way you turn this astounding reality it all equals ONE.
The Father looks like you.
Remember God has NO FORM…God is SPIRIT…He needs a body…YOU ARE IT!!
Thus God looks like the form He dwells in for you are His temple, his dwelling place for ever…if you have received the Spirit of God.
Heb 2:17 Therefore, in all things He had to be made like His brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.
In all things Jesus was made like you…ALL your weaknesses…Jesus was made like them…all you humanness Jesus was made like you.
What I am saying is that JUST HOW YOU FIND YOURSELF TO BE…you…with all your ways and doings, all your quirks and habits…JESUS has been MADE LIKE YOU..For He lives in you and in FACT IS IN UNION with you so that You and Jesus are ONE.
This is perfectly encapsulated by God through Paul when he wrote..
Gal 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
I LIVE…. yet… NOT I? It is Christ who lives in me….and the life I now live….? You mean Christ now lives? Well yes…I is me and Christ Jesus as ONE…IN THE FATHER!! Yes that life I now live with Jesus I live///He lives///by the faith OF the Son of God.
We live —-Father Son and you…–WE!!
This is the union which Jesus prayed we would come to know.
John 17:11…, that they may be one, as we are
Joh 17:21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us
Joh 17:22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:
Joh 17:23 I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one;
This is NOT talking about church unity. This is Jesus desiring with all the Father’s desire in His heart that you would come to KNOW IN THAT DAY!! That Jesus is IN FATHER and you are in Jesus and Jesus is IN YOU…!!
The glory that Jesus gave for us to know this astounding UNION is the BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT!…The immersion into the Spirit of God–Spirit of Christ-into Christ Himself.
For in Christ is ALL THINGS….
This is where we dwell. IN HIM.
