The other day I was about to reach for the door handle at my work place when it opened abruptly and one of the other truck drivers got a fright when he saw me standing there unexpectedly. He actually blurted out a blasphemy:
“Jesus!”Then he said, ” Yeah, it is Jesus!(meaning me)” and he laughed and as he walked on by.
There was a time when I thought that being a Christian meant I was to always speak about Jesus. I made a thorough nuisance of myself in the various jobs I had. In one job–Fisheries Inspector on a patrol boat the poor crew and captain were a captive audience for my witnessing. That skipper complained to Head Office and he had me moved 450km north to another patrol boat in Geraldton. The first day on the job up there and the new skipper confronted me saying, “There will be no talk on my boat about religion alright!?” I said fine. But over time he was the one who always brought God up and wanted to talk about stuff.
But now I have come into the reality of union with God in Christ Jesus I have ceased “trying to get people saved”. I have ceased trying to do Christian stuff, I just be me and rest in Him. I have been in this latest job for over two years now and have never preached to anyone or “witnessed” as I once did. Oh , they know I am some kind of weird believer who doesn’t go to church anymore…they know my family took in a family of 6 on Christmas day and had them stay for 5 weeks till they found somewhere to live….they thought that was amazing but I can tell you I struggled severely having that family in my home….5 kids under 11 years of age!
So when this truckie called me “Jesus” as I stood in front of him at the door….it was a big compliment and confirmation of the reality of Union life–abiding in Him. And that is who you are too Christian reader...You are Jesus to all those around you..yes you! And it is not only when you are feeling anointed or feeling strong. It is all the time. When you are feeling anything like what you imagine Jesus was like–YOU ARE AS HE IS…now here in this life on this earth.
You are the visible representation of Jesus Christ. You being you, warts an all..are as Jesus is.
1Jn 4:17 By this, love is perfected with us, so that we may have confidence in the day of judgment; because as He is, so also are we in this world.
And as Jesus said to Phillip “If you have seen me you have seen the Father”
It is not a matter of trying to be like Jesus to others…you ARE ONE WITH JESUS….it is HIS LIFE that lives AS you…..simply as you be you.
